Free or Paid, When You Need More

The ExaVault on-prem appliance is free to download and run for deployments up to 50 users. Above 50 users a Paid license is required ($99/month per 50-user pack), which also unlocks production features — support, automatic updates, SSO, 2FA, and SIEM export. Enterprise adds 24/7 support and managed assistance.

Common Questions About Free, Paid, and Enterprise

Quick answers on the difference between tiers, payment methods, deployment, and compliance. If your question isn't here, get in touch and we'll walk through your setup.

Free covers deployments up to 50 users — the full appliance, every file-transfer protocol, the web manager, share links, the audit log. Paid is required above 50 users (50-user packs at $99/month each) and also adds production operations at any user count: email and phone support, automatic updates, Single Sign-On, two-factor auth, automatic SSL renewal, and syslog export to your SIEM.

Two cases. (1) Required: more than 50 users. Paid is the licensing path above the Free user cap — $99/month per 50-user pack. (2) Worth it under 50 users: when you're running the appliance in production for a team that depends on it, your security team requires SSO + 2FA, you need automatic Linux patching, or your auditors want syslog feeding a SIEM. Small deployments that don't need those features stay on Free.

Free: self-serve through the published documentation at docs.exavault.com. No direct support channel.

Paid: email and phone support during business hours, handled by the ExaVault support team.

Enterprise: 24/7/365 support plus deployment and migration assistance.

No setup fee, and no annual commitment on the Paid tier — you pay $99 month-to-month and can cancel anytime. Enterprise contracts are quoted per deployment.

Credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) and PayPal are accepted for the $99/month plan. If you're pre-paying 12 months of service, we accept mailed check (USD), ACH transfer (USD), SEPA transfer (EUR), and FPS (GBP). Purchase orders and bank-direct billing are supported on Enterprise contracts.

Above 50 users a Paid license is required — the Free tier is licensed up to 50 users only. Paid scales in 50-user packs at $99/month each: 100 users is $198/month, 150 users is $297/month, and so on. Same feature set at every block; packs only buy more seats. Enterprise also starts at 50 users, with larger deployments quoted per environment.

Yes. The appliance ships as a VMware OVA, an AWS Marketplace image, and a GCP Marketplace image. Azure works by converting the VMware image (a native Azure Marketplace listing is on the roadmap). System requirements: 64-bit Intel, 4 CPU / 12 GB RAM / 100 GB primary disk plus a sized data drive. ARM (including Graviton) isn't supported.

The appliance ships the controls you need to run a compliant deployment: encryption in flight, audit logging, SSO + 2FA on Paid, syslog feeding your SIEM on Paid. Encryption at rest comes from your VM environment (VMware / AWS / GCP disk encryption).

Because the appliance runs in your environment, the compliance posture (SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR, FedRAMP, FIPS) is your scope — your infrastructure, your controls, your audit. ExaVault provides a GDPR Data Processing Addendum for the software relationship; ask your account contact about a BAA for HIPAA workloads.

No. The Free tier never expires, is never feature-degraded, and is never throttled — it is the full appliance, licensed for up to 50 users, and you can run it in production as long as you like. A Paid license is only needed to go past 50 users or to turn on SSO, 2FA, and syslog.

It is per user account. The Free tier is licensed for up to 50 user accounts; there is no separate cap on how many are connected at once. Past 50 accounts, a Paid 50-user pack ($99/month) adds the next block of seats.

Yes. Applying a Paid license activates the paid features — SSO, 2FA, syslog, and the higher user packs — on the running appliance. There is no new image to deploy and no data migration; the features turn on in place.

No. Software updates are included at every tier. Paid deployments update automatically; Free deployments apply updates manually from the Appliance Manager. Either way there is no update or maintenance fee.
