Connecting, Navigating, Sorting and File Management

Connecting to Your ExaVault Account

We provide a number of ways to connect to your ExaVault account to upload and download files.

If you prefer desktop software, or have an existing work-flow that requires FTP or SFTP, you may want to use a desktop FTP client. We have FTP client tutorials available for all popular software.

But the easiest option is to use our web-based file manager, which we call SWFT. Read on for details on how to use SWFT.

Logging in to your ExaVault account with SWFT

To upload or download files, you must first log in to your account.

  1. Browse to SWFT at https://swft.exavault.com/. (You may have been provided a different address to access your files. If this is the case, use that address instead.)
  2. Enter your username and password.
  3. Click the Log In button.

When you first log in to SWFT, you'll see the File Manager page. This is a view of the files and folders on your account.

Sorting

File Manager sorting in SWFT

SWFT has five ways to sort items in the file manager. Most of the sorting options may be sorted in an ascending sort (0-9;A-Z) or in a descending sort (Z-A;9-0).

Sorting by Timeline

The timeline sort is the default sort option in SWFT. A timeline sort is similar to a date sort, except that the dates are grouped. The idea is that you can see the most recently changed files grouped together, followed by older files, and so on. Within each group, files are then sorted alphabetically. For example:

  1. Files that were uploaded today.
  2. Files that were uploaded this week.
  3. Files that were uploaded this month.
  4. Files that were uploaded more than one month ago.

Sorting by Name

Sorting by name is a classic alphabetic sort.

  • Folders will be grouped together and sorted alpha-numerically.
  • Files will be grouped together and sorted alpha-numerically.

Sorting by Date

Sorting by date is a classic date/time sort. Files and folders will be sorted by their “last modified” date and time. For example:

An ascending date sort would sort files with the oldest files first:

Name Last Modified Datetime
good-boys-girls-list.pdf 25 December 2011 00:01:35
bad-boys-girls-list.pdf 25 December 2012 00:01:36
easter-egg-hiding-places-2009.dxf 12 April 2015 16:20:00
clients (directory) 23 March 2017 00:46:34
thanksgiving-cornbread-stuffing.pdf 24 March 2017 09:42:16

A descending date sort would sort files and folders with the newest items first:

Name Last Modified Datetime
thanksgiving-cornbread-stuffing.pdf 24 March 2017 09:42:16
clients (directory) 23 March 2017 00:46:34
easter-egg-hiding-places-2009.dxf 12 April 2015 16:20:00
bad-boys-girls-list.pdf 25 December 2012 00:01:36
good-boys-girls-list.pdf 25 December 2001 00:01:35

Sorting by Size

Sorting by size will sort files based upon their file size. Currently, folder sizes are not sortable, so folders will be grouped together and sorted alphabetically.

Sorting by Type

Sorting by type will sort files based upon their file extension.

  • Folders will be grouped together and sorted alpha-numerically.
  • Files with the same extension will be grouped together and sorted alpha-numerically.

Searching for Files

You can search your entire account for files with specific names, or parts of names. At the top of the screen there is a Search files and folders… box. To search, simply type what you're looking for, such as txt to find all files whose names contain “txt”, and then press Enter.

After you press Enter, all of the matching files and folders will be displayed in the file manager area. You can interact with the matched search entries just like you normally do – click on a file to download or click on a folder to open it. Search results can be sorted just like normal file listings. To exit the search results, click the clear results link that appears next to the words Search results for.

Items Per Page

At the bottom of the file list, you'll see a a series of number buttons. These control the number of folders and files that you'll see on a page.

If you have a folder with lots of files, the file list may spill onto different pages. To view different pages, simply click the page number links at the bottom of the file list.
