Uploading and Downloading Files
FTP has Evolved!
We provide a number of ways to connect to your ExaVault account and upload/download data. The easiest thing to do is use our advanced web-based file manager, which we call SWFT. Read on for details on how to use that.
If you prefer desktop software, or have an existing work-flow you need to fit into, you may want to use a desktop FTP client. We have FTP client tutorials available for all popular software.
To upload or download files, you must first log in
- Browse to SWFT at https://swft.exavault.com/.
- Enter your user name and password.
- Click the login button.
Uploading files is a snap! Just click on the “Upload” button at the top of the File Manager view. If you would like to upload files into a specific folder, just select the “Upload to this folder” option from the actions menu found next to the folder.
Selecting Files to Upload
To select files to upload:
- Click on the “select files to upload” button
- Select the file(s) you wish to upload
- Click the Open button.
The files you selected will be shown in the upload queue. Click the Start Upload button to upload the files to the server.
Uploading Large Files
For most browsers, there's no limit to the size of the file you can upload with SWFT, provided you have enough free space to store the file in your account. Just use the upload options the way you normally would.
For some versions of Internet Explorer, to upload files larger than 4GB in size, you'll need to enable the Java uploader. If Java is installed and enabled on your computer, you'll see an option below the file selection area that says Enable Java to upload entire folders. Set this option to ON, and continue choosing files to upload just as you normally would.
Uploading Entire Folders
If you wish to upload an entire folder (which may contain other folders) within SWFT, you'll need to enable Java to do that. If Java is installed and enabled on your computer, you'll see an option below the file selection area that says Enable Java to upload entire folders. Set this option to ON, and you'll be able to select folders when you click the Browse Computer button.
To download a file, just click on the file you wish to download. You'll see a dialog box asking you to save the file to a directory on your computer.
To download a folder, just simply select the “Download” option from the actions drop-down next to any folder. You'll see a dialog box – just as if you were downloading a file. The folder and all of its contents will be downloaded as a zip file.
