Do You Access the Internet Through a Local Area Network?

ExaVault protocols and ports »

For the non-geeks reading this, if any of the following statements describes how you connect to the Internet, then yes: you access the Internet through a local area network (LAN):

  • I connect at work through a cable and so do my co-workers.
  • I connect through a wireless router.
  • I am connecting at an Internet Cafe.
  • I am connecting through my hotel/hostel/resort/timeshare/etc.
  • I am connecting at a restaurant/cafe/coffee shop/office/retail store/etc. that offers Wi-Fi to it's patrons/guests/clients.
  • I am connecting through my neighbors WiFi (whether they know you are connecting or not).
  • I only have one computer:
    • and it does not connect directly to my cable/DSL/satelite router/modem.
    • but I could add another computer if I had one simply by plugging in a cable to where my computer is connected or by connecting through wireless.
  • I only have one computer:
    • …but both it and my smartphone (iPhone, Android, etc.) and/or my tablet (iPad, iPod Touch, Galaxy, EeePC, etc.) are all connected to the Internet through my cable/DSL/satelite router/modem.
  • I use a proxy server to connect.
