Using the Site Manager to Store Your Connections
When you are connecting to the same site over and over again, you'll find that you get tired of having to type the connection details into the Quickconnect bar over and over and over again. To solve that irritation, FileZilla provides you with the Site Manager.
The Site Manager

The Site Manager is like an address book for your FTP sites. At a minimum, you will want to setup the following for each site that you regularly connect to:
- Host or server name
- Port
- Server type (Connection protocol)
- Username
- Password
If you are already connected to an FTP server, you need only to do the following:
- Click the File menu.
- When the Site Manager appears, enter a name for your site.
Adding a Site For Your ExaVault Account
Adding an entry for your ExaVault FTP or Open Remote Backup account is a snap:
- Click the Open Site Manager button on the FileZilla toolbar.
- Click the New Site button.
- Name your site. (E.g.:
bobsmith@bobsmith.exavault.com). - Enter the address for your account (E.g.
bobsmith.exavault.com). - Enter the port and server type for your account. ExaVault recommends using Secure FTP with port
22. - Enter the username and password to your account.
Using a Entry in Site Manager to Connect to Your FTP Server

Once you have setup your connection in the Site Manager:
- Click the drop-down arrow next to the Site Manager button on the toolbar.
- Select your site.

Exploiting the FileZilla Site Manager
There's far more to the site manager than just storing a username and password.
Timezones and File Timestamps

When you upload files to an FTP server, a time stamp is placed on the file on the server.
- Some FTP servers are configured to use the date and time that the file was uploaded.
- Some FTP servers are configured to use the date and time that the file was last modified.
ExaVault Time Stamps
- ExaVault's servers time stamp files with the time they were uploaded.
- The timezone that ExaVault uses is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
Current GMT:
To set the Timezone offset for your entry in Site Manager:
- Find the hours and minutes that your timezone is offset from UTC .
- Select the entry in Site Manager.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Enter the hours and minutes of difference (positive or negative) between your timezone and UTC into the Timezone offset.
Default Directories

When you connect to your FTP server, you may find that you always have to navigate to a certain folder on your computer. In addition, you might find that you always go to a certain folder on the ExaVault server. Either way, you can specify default directories for each entry in the Site Manager.
To specify default directories for your entry in the Site Manager:
- Select the entry in Site Manager.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Enter default directories:
- For local directories, you can browse your computer's file tree by clicking the Browse button.
- For remote (folders on the ExaVault server) directories, remember the following:
- Preface the first directory name with a slash (
/). - Use slashes between directory names.
- Remote directory names are CaSe SENsiTiVe.
- Example:
/Clients/SpacelySprockets
