Install or Update Java

If you are having problems with Java, we can assure you that you aren't the first. Fortunately, that means that a solution is probably a few mouse clicks away. Usually, just making sure that you have the latest and greatest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from Oracle will do the trick.

Mac

For Mac OS, Java is updated (at least for now) by Apple. What that means to you is that you just need to run a Software Update:

Windows

You might be surprised to learn that Microsoft Windows hasn't shipped with a current Java runtime since about 2005 (it's a long story fraught with lawyers…). Therefore, making sure that you have the latest and greatest Java is probably step one if you are having issues with Java applets.

  1. Click the “Verify Java Version”” button.
    If you need an update, a link to the file to download will be shown.

If you do need an update:

  1. Download and run the installer file.
  2. Accept the default installation options.
  3. After installation, restart your Internet browsers.
