Ready for Simple, Flexible Online Storage?

ExaVault provides inexpensive FTP storage space & rsync backup space that allows you to backup and share your files with friends, clients and colleagues. We offer two types of plans:

Our FTP Storage Space Plans are designed for customers who wish to share, exchange and backup files via FTP, and allow you to create unlimited user sub-accounts and restrict access to files in those sub-accounts.

Our rsync/Linux Remote Backup Plans are for customers who need offsite storage space accessible via open protocols such as rsync, ssh and sshfs.

Your Questions. Answered.

What software do you use? Where can I download it?
Unlike most other storage companies, we believe in choice! We don't make you use our proprietary software; instead, we let you use whatever software you're most comfortable with. Our service works with all FTP software currently on the market, the remote backup components of most commercial backup software, and a variety of open source software. We've provided detailed instructions for many popular platforms, or you can create your own.

That's great, but I don't have a clue which program to pick. Can you just recommend something?
If you really don't know what to choose, we recommend using FileZilla Client Software (Windows) and CyberDuck (Mac OS X). They are free, high quality pieces of software, and can be used with either our FTP Storage Space Plans or rsync/Linux Backup Plans. If you need to do automated backup, we recommend SyncBack SE (Windows) or Retrospect (Mac OS X), both of which do incremental FTP backup to your FTP space.

How come you keep saying I have to use incremental backup software? Can't I just upload all of my files each night?
If you're using our service for backup, we require you to use incremental backup software. Incremental backup software, such as the recommended SyncBack SE, Restrospect and rsync, copy only changed files each night. So you upload all of your files once, and then each night the software 'syncs' your files with your backup, copying over the work you've done that day. It doesn't waste bandwidth copying unchanged files (e.g. your term papers from high school that you haven't touched in ten years) over and over again. If you need help getting your backup system setup, don't hesitate to contact us.

Is my data secure? Where is your data center?
Absolutely! All of our servers are collocated in a secure data center in Fremont, CA, and are hardened against online attacks. Our data center is staffed 24/7, and includes redundant cooling, connectivity and backup generators.

What sort of network connectivity do you have?
Our servers are collocated on gigabit ethernet with one of the leading high-capacity transit providers in Silicon Valley. Their international gigabit backbone is ranked among the top in the nation connecting several major exchange points including MAE-West in San Jose, PAIX in Palo Alto, AADS in Chicago, NYIIX in New York, and MAE-East in Virginia. They peer with over 400+ networks, including Genuity, AOL, XO Communications, Google, Verio, Level3, MSN, Earthlink, Broadwing, Abovenet, Williams, Akamai and Digital WireWorks, to help keep your data traveling via the shortest possible routes.

Am I stuck with the amount of space I buy? Can I get more later?
You may upgrade (or downgrade) your storage space at any time. To upgrade or downgrade, just contact us and we'll take care of it for you.

Can I store whatever I want?
Yes, you may store whatever data you want. However, you must own or have permission to store the data: we do not allow pirated data (e.g. MP3s, movies, software, etc.) to be stored or shared via our service.

Do you allow anonymous logins (e.g. Anonymous FTP)?
No. You may create as many sub-accounts as you'd like for your customers, clients or colleagues, but everyone must use a password to access their data. We do not allow anonymous FTP.

Can I use your service to host my website?
No. We focus on offering high-quality FTP storage space for backup and sharing of files, but we do not offer website hosting space. If you need a web host, we suggest you contact Pair Networks, our recommended web hosting partner.

What if I want to use something besides FTP?
Our rsync/Linux Backup Plans include support for additional backup-oriented protocols, including rsync, scp, sftp, ssh and sshfs. If you have another protocol or tool that you'd like to use for remote backups or online restore, we can usually enable it for your account at no cost. Please contact us with the details of your requirements.

Can I login more than once at the same time? Can I create sub-accounts with separate passwords?
All FTP Storage Space Plans allow you to create as many sub-accounts as you want, and login simultaneously as many times as you want. You may also restrict sub-account access to certain directories. For example, you might have two clients, 'jane' and 'bob'. You could create sub-accounts for each, restricting 'jane' to the 'janes-files' directory, and 'bob' to 'bobs-files'. You, with the master password, could see all the files.

Our rsync/Linux Backup Plans include only one login and do not allow you to create additional logins or sub-accounts. You may backup as many computers as you'd like to an rsync/Linux Backup account, but you must use the same login/password for all of them.

Can my sub-account users create their own sub-accounts?
No. Continuing the above example, 'jane' might have two employees, 'sally' and 'sue'. You (with the master account) could create sub-accounts for 'sally' and 'sue', and assign them to access 'janes-files', but 'jane' could not do this herself.

Can I set my sub-accounts to 'read-only' or 'write-only'?
Yes! We allow you to set any sub-account to 'read-only' status, which means clients can download but not upload files, or 'write-only' status, which means the reverse (uploads are OK but downloads are not allowed). You can also set 'File Visibility' on your sub-accounts, so that clients who login cannot see other files in the directory. This is particularly useful for creating an FTP Drop Box which allows customers to upload files into a common storage area but not download other client's files.

How does your 30-day guarantee work?
We provide a 30-day money-back guarantee to all our customers. If you are unsatisfied for any reason during your first thirty days, just email and we'll refund you in full. Refunds are generally processed in two business days.

How do I cancel my account?
If you wish to cancel your account, please login to your Client Area, click on the 'Accounts' tab, and file a cancellation request. Cancellations are generally processed within two business days. Please note that if you are beyond your initial 30-day trial period, we do not offer refunds for unused time on your service.

Do you provide shell access to my data?
Our rsync/Linux Backup Plans do include full shell access. Our FTP Storage Space Plans are FTP-only, and do not support shell access.

Can I resell/rebrand your service?
Absolutely! Please see our Resellers page for more information.
